You should apply to the National Partnership Agreement program of the Department of Education. You must be currently enrolled in an accredited program in an area of the United States that is covered by the NPI. If you are not already enrolled in one of the eligible programs listed above, you will need to apply to the program that covers the area in which you plan to complete an undergraduate degree. If you are not currently enrolled, your application will be accepted and you will be directed to the program that should be the best match to your academic interests, your academic course work, and your extracurricular activities. If you already have an education plan that includes an enrollment in an area described or approved by the NPI, you will not need to complete a change of educational plan in order to participate in the NPI. If you did not receive a letter or confirmation of enrollment from an institution of higher education (IHE), you will not be able to apply to the NPI and will be directed to the IHE instead. For additional information, refer to the following resources:
Students should familiarize themselves with the different requirements to enroll in, and be enrolled in, the NPI; and
Undergraduates who apply to the NPI need to meet all of the following:
Enroll in a full-term program of study;
Enroll in coursework leading to an undergraduate degree;
Receive a letter of acceptance (with no specific change of educational plan required); and
Complete the NPI application to attend any participating institutions that may be offered by the NPI for use as an undergraduate student;
Students who enroll in an NPI at the time of the 2019-2020 school year will also have to meet all of the above requirements and will be able to participate in and complete the NPI. Please note that students in non-participating courses will not qualify for access in the early 2020 NPI if they are registered for classes or have scheduled classes.
How do I apply for Pell Grants for Undergraduates?
You should contact the United States Department of Education for more information, including any restrictions on participation in the NPI. The NPI is part of the federal Direct Loan program.
