You must be able to prove that you can afford to maintain your home, even with expenses such as insurance, taxes, and utility bills. So if you have a mortgage, you have to have funds to pay the interest. You also have to be able to maintain the house for at least five years. You also have to demonstrate that a good home insurance policy will pay for your home if your home falls into foreclosure or you find yourself unable to pay off your mortgage.
