All four of the major horse races are in the summer months. In each race, you must have a minimum of 50,000 miles or more on your horse before starting.

What about training for some races but not others?

There is no specific training or racing rules for all of them. However, in most races, your horse needs to meet certain speed, running time, finish times, and points requirements before being eligible to compete.

How can I compete in the Olympics?

You can only compete in the Olympics if you are a U.S. citizen. You can participate in an adult Olympics if your horse is a U.S. Champion and you live in the United States; if your horse is a U.S. Champion and you’re not a citizen, you can participate in an adult Olympics if your horse is a U.S. Champion and you live in the United States.

What if I run two or more age group races?

You can compete in a race and the same horse as your age group, but only the younger horse in the race (or a horse racing club) may compete in the next race of that age group to which it belongs. The age group the horse belongs must have the most entries within its age division.

Can I compete in the Kentucky Derby?

You do not compete in the Kentucky Derby. Your age group can compete in the Kentucky Derby (at least the youngest horse that is younger than your particular age group in that race) or any other age group race.

Are dogs allowed at the racing?

No. Dogs are not permitted to race in any of the races.

What if I have more than 4 registered horses?

There are no age limits for the race of 4 horses or more. However, in each race, you must have 4 horses over the maximum number of registered horses you can have on account of age, or under the maximum number of horses you can have on account of age and at least one of them is a U.S. Champion.

Can I race in the All State, Mid-West and Kentucky Regatta?

Yes. You can race in any of the four states, but only four of the four races are at an All-State or mid-west location.
