I think that you can call him something to help make you think that is ok, but the only time you need to name him a nickname that makes him seem like a stereotype is if he doesn’t like you.

The only person you should name yourself after is yourself.

For example: I am a white person, I will call myself a white person. I can be called by all sorts of nicknames and I won’t be offended or upset about it for a long, long time. A while ago I had a conversation with my son in which he referred to his little black friend as “little bird,” and he called me a “white motherfucker” afterwards. My child is only 5 years old and doesn’t know any better. The conversation was fine, I never said anything negative about him. There were kids who were even younger than him, but they were fine. But after it happened, I had to say something. I felt like I had to defend myself. I was afraid to look him in the eyes and let him know I didn’t like that name he called me after that. When my son had the same conversation in a year or ten years from now, I’m sure he will have a different perspective on the matter. Now he’s a 5 year old boy – he can’t do everything with the old me he had. You should name him something he might not get tired of it.

In the same way, there is a kid who looks white and you know he’s only 5 years old and he might not get tired of calling him, “big nigger” or “little nigger.” So you start saying “nigger” or “little nigger” to him. Eventually he’ll start calling you “Big Nigger” or “Little Nigger” and the only thing you have to do is to remind him you’re only 5 years old. After that you shouldn’t have to remind him anything at all.

Don’t get upset about it.

It won’t make you a better parent or change you in any way. When you get that nickname, you will be fine.
