Well, that’s a really good question, since we don’t really know for sure because, as the old saying goes, “Who wouldn’t love two hunky Brits, looking and acting great in a movie?” And yet, as the video above reminds us, two people don’t come up with all the money to pay for an elaborate wedding, and it’s not uncommon for people to get divorced, have children together, get married. The real question is, are they a couple or are they just friends?

Well, we know the answer is the latter. As the Daily Beast pointed out early Friday morning that they’re actually just friends, and that they weren’t dating “until he learned she was dating a guy”:

The two were roommates for two years after they graduated from college at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, and at one point he was so interested in her that his classmates and ex-girlfriends started calling him “Ariana.” On Twitter, where she had her own account, he referred to her as @ArianaGrandeBrunette, and on Reddit, a fan-run community site, fans tagged her photos as “Ariana Grande Brunette,” “Ariana Grande,” or “Ariana Grande.” So he knew something was up.

Ariana’s rep tells us that she was actually married to an Australian actor named Adam Young several years ago. We’re not sure if that’s true, though, but it sure seems like the two were going through some sort of breakup, anyway.
