Once you do well enough at graffiti, you get good enough at doing other kinds of graffiti. A lot of people think that, “Oh, I can’t write my name.” But you learn to do it well, so there’s a lot of ways that can be done. A lot of it is just technique and knowing different areas, and being able to do it with a certain amount of skill, but not overdoing it. I’m not one of those people that thinks there’s one correct way to do it. There are a lot of things that can be done. Do you think it will be possible for every street in London to become a street art street?
No. No, it wouldn’t. You’d have it in places where the community might have more of a stake in their own community and their own culture, but there’d be people coming from far away, and all kinds of people wanting to see it. They all have to work hard. So many things need to work in unison to make that happen, and to make it become the norm. It’s an interesting process.
Are you thinking about other cities? What you’re working on could have been done anywhere, just not by you?
I do really want to do it elsewhere that aren’t necessarily connected to my roots but that I love writing in, whether it’s at a museum or not. And I do want to do it somewhere in a city or town where there’s a huge graffiti community. And just doing it in public spaces is a bit difficult, and it’s not as common.
