The New York City Transit Department and the MTA have a longstanding tradition of making it easy to ride the New York City subway system. Today the City and MTA are excited to announce the launch of a new Metrocard Program to help riders save cash, get home on time, and experience the City’s wide variety of public transportation options within the Subway. New customers are eligible for the newly launched Metrocard Program, which allows them to gain instant credit cards on a weekly basis.
To qualify to sign up for the free trial period, customers must show that they live in the City of New York City. Metrocards may be used between Monday, June 7 and Wednesday, June 14, 2012. Customers may also apply online or check on-print cards available for download at MTA Ticketing Offices.
The federal government has been told to slash its spending on health care to get a deal on the looming 2015 federal budget, senior officials have revealed.
Government officials have been told to make the $8.1-billion cut within the next three weeks as part of negotiations around the federal deficit and debt ceiling, according to Treasury officials.
The move could cause a partial halt to planned spending increases, as the Treasury has warned that it has no funds available to pay other parts of its budget, and that it could go broke.

Senior government sources said the announcement could be a sign the Conservative side is determined not to make serious concessions to Senate Liberal leader Mac Harb.

Treasury officials and Finance officials had previously agreed to the three-week “sunset” period as a negotiating ploy, but refused to give a timeframe. But the Conservative government is now expected to deliver an updated budget on Tuesday.
