(Reuters) – The first lawsuit challenging a state law imposing strict gun control measures by a private club challenging a federal law banning most lawsuits by private citizens has been filed against the city of Aurora in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.

The filing by Colorado Springs-based Second Amendment Foundation challenges the city’s law, which the group argues violates the Constitution, on several grounds including that it places a “totalitarian” burden on their right to be free from government and to keep and bear arms.

The suit, which was first published on the foundation’s website on Tuesday, seeks to strike down the city law and other laws that the foundation argues infringe on Second Amendment rights.
