On the night of 24 July 1992, when the crash of the stock market was at its worst, the two largest-volume trading platforms in the world were a single trading platform. The total volume of trading on NYSE Euronext was 11 million shares. The total volume of volume on Bitstamp was $2 billion. So you could say that $2 billion of Bitstamp trade was on the most expensive stock of all time: Bitcoin. Bitstamp traders could buy and sell Bitcoin at any moment, while buying and selling on the NYSE Euronext was difficult and dangerous, even though the price was much more stable. At the time of the crash, Bitcoin was trading at $500. Today it is down to $20.

Of the top 100 companies on the Nasdaq that collapsed at one point, about 60 were also listed on Bitstamp: Adobe Software, the makers of Adobe Illustrator; IBM; General Electric; IBM’s personal computer unit; and Microsoft.
