When you don’t have any food, you have to burn the fat calories that you burn during exercise. There’s a biological effect that the body uses to make fat. The more fat you burn, the more you can store until your body is ready for it. This is called the thermic effect of food (TEF; also called thermic effect). The TEF is your internal temperature. Once the TEF is high enough you don’t sweat as much and eventually you stop losing weight.

When you exercise, you burn fat calories while releasing fuel to your muscles. But since the TEF is so high, you never feel the effects of the exercise because the calories from the exercise are always at the same level. In other words, you don’t know that you have burned enough calories. The more you burn the higher the TEF is.

With a TEF high enough, you stop losing weight.
