How do I get around without a table saw? – Woodworking Business Advice

You can do it. You don’t need a table saw, you’ll be fine cutting out smaller pieces of 1/4-inch plywood and the like that would require the table saw. You’d also need to get a table saw that’s capable of slicing through wood at a 1:8 ratio, so you could cut the table to the size you wanted for a DIY project or a project for which you want something cut to fit. If you need a table saw but it doesn’t cut through wood at the 1:8 ratio, the best thing is to get a table saw that does 1:8, it’s the best way to cut without a table saw.

That said, if you don’t have access to an actual table saw, but you would like a table you can cut to, there are many great pieces designed specifically for your needs. For my needs here, I’ve got an EZTable from Ikea (my home theater) and they are a great table that will meet the needs of most home theater users. I’ve been using theirs for nearly ten years, and they continue to impress me each year. I like the simplicity of it, being able to just pick out all I need, which is also great if you don’t have the time to assemble all your electronics.

What are the most common types of wood laminate? What do they look like? Does a table saw work with them?

Laminate is generally made using one of three different materials: a sheet of wood, a laminate panel, and a composite panel used in the manufacturing process. They are all very different, but their general functions are fairly similar.

It varies by the kind of laminate used in the industry, but usually it’s a 2-by-3-foot plywood layer that you can cut to size with your table saw; in many cases, you’ll use a 2,000 lb table saw to cut to a full 3’x9′ sheet (for a 4-by-8-foot table) and you would place two of them on the opposite edges of one of the other, cutting it the full 3′ x 9′, and cut it to size in the middle. The wood laminate will typically sit very nicely in the corners of the room you are working in. Some people say that a laminate sheet can be a little harder for the table saw to cut to than a full width plywood piece due to the thickness of the laminate.
