The latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine, which was first published on 28 February 2011, now has an interview with Sakamoto detailing the details of Dragon Quest Heroes.
In the interview, Sakamoto said that the game, which began a trend of fighting games centred around heroes, is currently only going on a few stages. “It’s still in development right now,” he continued. “But we’re hoping to bring you more details on the game very soon.”
We first heard about Dragon Quest Heroes during this year’s Game Developers Conference. The game, which was announced at the end of 2011’s GDC expo in San Francisco, was expected to be released in Japan on the 3DS in late October.
Dragon Quest Heroes is also one of the titles planned for the Wii U, due out in Japan on 24 September. Sakamoto teased that Dragon Quest Heroes is being “a lot more difficult” compared to Dragon Quest X. “It’s quite a big game than what we had in X, but a lot of the fun of it comes from those elements you can’t get too far away from,” he said, “so it won’t just be just the same things you’d expect.”
Dragon Quest Heroes is expected to feature a battle system and cast of characters inspired from RPG Maker, where players will be able to make and use items. Sakamoto said: “I think there’s going to be a lot more content than what we’ve seen in X, because of that, and it’s being made from the ground up to bring more characters into the equation.”
